A psychic desperate to escape her destiny—and a killer—finds her future in the coastal town of Burning Cove in New York Times bestselling author Amanda Quick’s latest novel.
Being Madame Ariadne, Psychic Dream Consultant, wasn’t Prudence Ryland’s ideal gig, but it paid well which was reason enough to do the work—until she realizes that her latest client intends to kill her. But Prudence, a master at reinvention, finds a new job and home as far away as possible and is finally able to relax—which turns out to be a big mistake. Letting her guard down means being kidnapped and drugged and waking up in a bloodstained wedding dress in the honeymoon suite next to a dead man. With the press outside the hotel, waiting with their cameras and police sirens in the distance, it’s obvious she’s being framed for the man’s murder. Prudence knows who is responsible, but will anyone believe her?
It doesn’t seem likely that rumored crime boss Luther Pell or his associate, Jack Wingate, believe her seemingly outrageous claims of being a target of a ruthless vendetta. In fact, Prudence is convinced that the mysterious Mr. Wingate believes her to be a fraud at best, and at worst: a murderer. And Jack Wingate does seem to be someone intimately familiar with violence, if going by his scarred face and grim expression. So no one is more shocked than Prudence when Jack says he’ll help her. Of course, his ideas for helping her involve using her as the bait for a killer, but Prudence feels oddly safe with Jack protecting her. But who will protect Prudence from her growing fascination with this enigma of a man?

The Bride Wore White by Amanda Quick is another fabulous tale of mystery, romance, trust, revenge, and a touch of the paranormal.

Who is after Prudence, and will Jack be able to keep her safe?

Prudence Ryland

Prudence comes from a long line of psychic dream consultants. However, this isn’t what she wants to be for the rest of her life. Prudence dreams of owning a bookshop that focuses on the paranormal. After a bad reading in San Francisco, Prudence takes off for Los Angeles. Here she reinvents herself as a research librarian working at a college. I envy how she can change her style and look to suit the personality that she is using at the time.

Prudence is very resourceful, intelligent, and beautiful. She is also kind and looks at the person as a whole instead of what is on the surface, perhaps because she knows how easy it is to put on a different face. I like this character and would love to bump into her in Burning Cove.

Jack Wingate

Jack is our hero, although he would probably disagree with us on that description. He describes himself as a consultant and is writing a manuscript about profiling. Well, at least it will become called that eventually, as he doesn’t call it that yet. Jack also lives in an unusual oceanfront home named House of Shadows by its previous owner, a Hollywood star.

Jack is knowledgeable, with a touch of intuition and a bit of disfigurement that keeps him from having friends or making himself comfortable. He wants it all, but is he strong enough to grab onto the one person who makes him feel special? The Bride Wore White CR

The Mystery

The mystery is perfect. It has to do with revenge, but whose revenge? First, Prudence is attacked in San Francisco, then again in Adeline Beach while working in the library. However, there doesn’t seem to be a reason for the attacks. The last attack resulted in the death of Gilbert Dover, whose mother is very powerful in San Francisco. Now she has her sites on Prudence as her son’s killer.

Seriously though, it isn’t that cut and dry; secrets and deceptions exist around each corner of the case. They all seem to circle around the Dover family, but why? This is where Jack’s intuition comes in. Let’s hope he figures it out before Prudence ends up dead too.

I love how Ms. Quick puts a touch of paranormal in the Burning Cove stories. Each of them is perfectly balanced with all the things I love. I plan to read more of the Jayne Ann Krentz/Amanda Quick/Jayne Castle books this year.

There is also a bit of Luther and Raina. Luther puts Jack and Prudence together. Raina assists Jack with the investigation. Although, it has become apparent that Luther could become a matchmaker for his next career. I don’t see him doing that, but…
